"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?"
When I learned to honor my body as a temple, I learned to love my spirit and accept any failings this human form has. The battle scars I wear from cancer (and let's face it, life in general) are indeed quite beautiful in their horror. This song speaks to my conversion and the reverence with which I hold each day in the temple... these broken, weak, wretched holy bones.
lyrics
The temple leaks, it creaks and yet, it speaks
in hushed sacred tones
I am here
The temple breaks, it aches for mercy's sake,
these holy wretched bones
Are my years, the sum of all these tears,
the sum all of these fears,
These bones
So fill my cup with wine
Bitter tears taste better that way
Cremator's fire burn on
Keep on burning for another day
When the battle is over and blood fills the streets
And the people are crying for one moment's peace
I will lay me down and I'll go to sleep
In the temple... these bones
The temple bell tries to tell what hell has come before
Gloria
But in the end, sacred hymn can't begin to tell the story
Gloria...
So fill my cup with wine
Bitter tears taste better that way
Cremator's fire burn on
Keep on burning for another day
With my battle scarred flesh painted over in ink
And muted by joy I can barely speak
I will lay me down and I'll go to sleep
In the temple... these bones
Gloria, gloria...
Now I lay me down to sleep
I pray the Lord my soul to keep
In these bones...
